Put on Elytra in Survival Mode
When you have your inventory open while playing in Survival mode, you will see a picture of your character with boxes that let you switch out the armor that they are wearing.
Place the elytra in the chestplate box to the left of your character (second box from the top), from your inventory.
When the elytra are moved, your character’s appearance changes and it appears that they are donning a cape.
Now you are wearing the elytra in Survival mode.
Put on Elytra in Creative Mode
The elytra are really not necessary to wear if you are playing in Creative mode because you can already fly. But it is still fun to put it on.
It is a little more difficult to locate your armor menu in Creative mode if your inventory is open.
Select the Survival Inventory option in the bottom right of the inventory menu in Minecraft Java Edition for PC/Mac (see circled option below) to see your armor. For Minecraft PE, tap the Armor tab.

With the elytra, you don’t actually fly but rather glide through the air at a high speed.
Due to the fact that you are gliding, you must start high. As an illustration, let’s ascend a mountain.
