How to Enable Hardcore Mode for your Minecraft Server

If you want to survive in Minecraft’s hardcore mode, you must be prepared for an extremely difficult task.

With room to play the game in a variety of ways, Minecraft is a fantastically creative experience that allows you to do almost anything you can imagine. You can continue playing in survival mode as usual, building structures and fending off Creepers. As an alternative, you can play adventure maps in the adventure mode, where certain blocks are not allowed to be destroyed. Additionally, there is a creative mode where you have instant access to everything in the game and can create works of art.

But there is one more game mode that is ideal for you if you really want a challenge: hardcore mode. Even the most skilled Minecraft player may struggle to complete this challenging game mode. Therefore, you must ensure that you are ready for what this game mode has in store if you are eager to prove yourself.

Multiplayer[]

There is a multiplayer option called “hardcore mode,” and its features are similar to those in singleplayer. It is impossible to have some players in Hardcore mode and others not because all players have that mode enabled. Hardcore mode cannot be played in Realms.

Server operators can change their own or another player’s game mode using the /gamemode command.

Using Cheats (Designed by QBSteve)[]

Here’s a guide on creating a hardcore world in Bedrock. (Note: This design replicates hardcore in Java versions 1. 0. 0 – 1. 3. 1, excluding the textures (unless you have a resource/texture pack that does the trick)

  • Make a world (set the world settings to whatever you like, as along its in hard difficulty (Turn off “Natural Regeneration” for a Ultra hardcore world).
  • Go into creative and get Bedrock, get a Command Block using the /give command, a Pressure Plate (be sure that its not weighted! [needs testing]), a light source (optional)
  • Build a bedrock room (big enough to fit all of the blocks necessary)
  • Build either design (Legend: P = Pressure Plate, C1 = command block (CB) (command: /tag @p DEAD(Settings: Default)) C2 = CB (command: /kick @a(tag=DEAD)YourReasonHere(Settings: Repeat, Always Active)), C3 = CB (command: /spawnpoint @a (Settings: Repeat, Always Active), B = Bedrock, LS = Light Source (optional)
  • stand on C3, then type the following command /tickingarea add circle ~ ~-1 ~ 4 SPAWN
  • Enclose the box (Be sure the player wont suffocate in there!)
  • Reset the world spawn (so players can actually play without getting kicked out of the game right off the bat)
  • Alternate design

    B LS B
    B P C3 B
    B B B B B

P is only the spawnpoint; you can add the pressure plate if you’d like.

    The Nether[]

    Duration: 30 minutes–2 hours

Because the Nether can be extremely dangerous, try to bring:

Some dangerous aspects of the Nether are:

  • Ghasts. Their fireballs can seriously damage unprepared players, or deactivate portals. Without a flint and steel or fire charges, another fireball must hit the portal to reactivate it.
  • Falling down huge distances. Even while moving carefully, an explosion can easily destroy the terrain, which may expose a lethally high drop onto blocks or even into lava. Fall damage is one of the leading causes of death in the Nether.
  • Lava. There are many little pockets of lava inside the netherrack, in addition to the lava seas. Lava is much more dangerous in the Nether because its flow is faster and will flow further. Since water cannot be placed in the Nether, potions of fire resistance are very useful.
  • The “Basalt Deltas” biome. Avoid these where possible. The jagged terrain, frequent hidden holes of lava with no escape, and the abundance of Magma Cubes, make this biome exceptionally dangerous unless you are prepared with Fire Resistance. Even mining in this biome is dangerous due to the hidden lava. Far too many Hardcore runs have ended in this biome.
  • Piglins. An attacked piglin or zombified piglin will attract others and they can come at you in droves. You may get overwhelmed, even with good gear.
  • Beware of the Piglin Brute. Although they only spawn in a Bastion Remnant, they are extremely powerful with 50 health and 19 damage, enough for killing the player without any status effects in a maximum of nine hits when player is stuck (even with Protection netherite armor). They are always hostile, their attacks disable shields, and they will make regular piglins attack you too.
  • Blazes. Although theyre not very challenging alone and in controlled circumstances, in groups of three or more they may present a significant challenge. An unexpected attack of just one blaze can be lethal.
  • Endermen. Although they are rare, they can be dangerous when provoked due to their teleporting ability and high health, especially when they are accompanied by a blaze or a wither skeleton. They are particularly dangerous in the Nether where you cant use water to counter them.
  • Wither skeletons. Although they only appear in nether fortresses, this may be the most lethal Nether mob; they are fast, strong, and inflict the wither status effect.
  • Four items in the Nether could be essential to your journey:

  • Nether wart – they are necessary to brew any useful potion. They are found quite often in nether fortresses. Five is enough, but its better to take every one. Collect at least six blocks of soul sand, so that a farm can be started.
  • Blaze Rod – it is necessary to craft eyes of ender. It is also used to craft a brewing stand and brew strength and fire resistance potions. To obtain them you will need to kill blazes. Its best to fight lone blazes at first to avoid becoming overwhelmed. Find two rods (one if you already have magma cream); once you have those (and your Nether Wart), retreat to brew some potions of fire resistance. Collect more rods after applying the fire resistance potions, but remember that potions of fire resistance do NOT nullify Blaze melee attacks. For the main Blaze battle, find an enclosed spawner and kill them with a sword. This conserves arrows and saves the drops. About 12 blaze rods should be more than enough.
  • Ghast tears – used for potions of regeneration. However, ghasts are dangerous, and their drops are often destroyed.
  • Glowstone dust – used for strengthening potion effects. Glowstone appears occasionally in nether fortresses, otherwise, look for it on low ceilings of netherrack. Besides, it allows you to create spectral arrows, the effect is just a visual help, but every creation it means +1 free arrow in exchange of glowstone dust. Keep in mind that spectral arrows are consumed even if the bow is enchanted with Infinity.
  • You might have to spend a lot of time in the Nether if there are no nearby nether fortresses. By killing Hoglins that drop porkchops or using the incredibly plentiful mushrooms, food supplies can be easily replenished. Mark the way back to the portal with torches or distinctive nonflammable blocks like cobblestone, dirt, or workbenches.

First find a fortress. After gathering the necessary blaze rods, set out to locate some piglins or a bastion. Given that there are numerous piglins and a ton of gold to be found, a bastion remnant will be helpful for trading with them. However, be cautious as they will become enraged and attempt to kill you if you mine the gold or open chests close to them. (Be especially aware of Piglin Brutes. (After obtaining all the necessary ender pearls, move the end portal to the Overworld.
