Cheap laptops called Chromebooks run a proprietary version of Linux called ChromeOS. Historically, Chromebooks have been better known for running simple operations like taking notes and browsing the internet, but an expanding selection of Android-based apps and features are gradually making them suitable as a replacement for the traditional laptop. Even “Minecraft,” one of the most played video games in the world with 141 million players as of August 2021, can be played on them, according to Statista.
Instead of installing the standard “Minecraft: Java Edition,” which is more closely associated with how “Minecraft” is played on a desktop or laptop rather than how it is typically played on a mobile Android-based device, you will typically install something like “Minecraft: Education Edition.” However, playing “Minecraft: Java Edition” has the advantage of allowing you to see new content as it is released and to play with PC players on a much wider range of servers. Although “Minecraft: Java Edition” can technically be installed on a Chromebook running Linux, your gaming experience will ultimately depend on how powerful your Chromebook is. You should also ensure that you have a copy of “Minecraft: Java Edition,” which you can either purchase from the official website or obtain as part of PC Game Pass.
In order to enable GPU acceleration on specific Chromebook devices before you start, it’s a good idea to open a new Chrome page and then go to chrome://flags. If it isn’t already, just look for “GPU acceleration” and turn it on.
Installing Minecraft: Education Edition from Google Play Store
Many Chromebooks enable the use of Android applications obtained from the Google Play Store. Chromebooks released in and after 2017 support Android apps directly. Some older Chromebooks have also got the feature via updates. Although we have a comprehensive guide for running Android apps on a Chromebook, we’ll only cover the essential steps here.
Chromebooks don’t currently support the full Minecraft game for Android. However, you can get Minecraft: Education Edition from the Play Store and set it up on your Chromebook. It differs from the original game, but it is a more student-focused version. For use after installation, you must have a subscription through the education email address.
Make sure your Chromebook has the most recent Chrome OS version before you begin. Click the time in the bottom-right corner of the screen, the status bar, and the Settings cog to launch the Settings app.
Select the Apps option. You can find the option on the Apps screen if your Chromebook is compatible with Google Play Store. Select the Google Play Store option, then click the Turn on button.
Open the Google Play Store from the dock/taskbar or via search. Look for Minecraft: Education Edition by searching for it. Click on the Install button.

Using Linux app support to install Minecraft Java Edition
Only x86 systems will support the Minecraft Java Edition for Linux. This approach won’t work for Chromebooks with ARM processors. Also keep in mind that in order for this method to work, your Chromebook must support Linux apps.

Open the Settings app on your Chromebook, then click the Advanced tab in the left navigation pane to access the advanced settings. Click the Developers tab under advanced settings. In the right pane, there will be a tab labeled “Linux development environment.” Click the Turn on button under it.
An installation window will show up. Click Next. On the following screen, choose the disk size based on your preferences, then click Install.
After some time, the installation will be completed, and a terminal window will appear. By entering the following command, you can update your Linux environment to the most recent version. Hit Enter once you type it in. Code.

If your Chromebook has an ARM chipset, i. e. Linux won’t work for you because it uses a CPU that isn’t made by Intel or AMD. Then you must install PojavLauncher, which enables Chromebooks with ARM and x86 processors to run the Android version of Minecraft.
Click on the time in the bottom-right corner of the screen, the status bar, and the Settings icon to launch the Settings app on your Chromebook.
Click on the Apps tab. You can find the option on the Apps screen if your Chromebook is compatible with Google Play Store. Select the Google Play Store option, then click the Turn on button.
Open the Google Play Store from the dock/taskbar or via search. Search for PojavLauncher, and open it in the Play Store by clicking on the search result. Click the Install button.
Once installed, run PojavLauncher. Grant it storage permission when prompted.
After downloading and installing the necessary files, it will present you with the option to access Minecraft.

Depending on the type of Chromebook you have, but most of them can run Minecraft at 30 frames per second at a decent resolution.
The foundational version of Minecraft is the one available for Android devices under the name Minecraft Pocket Edition. PojavLauncher can be used to run it on Chromebooks even though the official Minecraft Pocket Edition app is not available.
There is no legitimate way to legally obtain the paid game Minecraft for free. You must sign into a Minecraft account that has previously made a purchase in order to use any of these methods.
