Early in the game’s development—nearly 12 years ago, to be exact—Weather was added to Minecraft. Although rain was the first type of special weather to be added, many other alternatives, including snowfall and thunderstorms, quickly followed.
Players can use commands to change weather settings in a world where cheats are enabled, including turning rain off and on.
- Open the Chat Window. The easiest way to run a command in Minecraft is within the chat window.
- Type the Command. In this example, we will change the weather to rain with the following command: /weather rain. Once the cheat has been entered, it will start to rain in your Minecraft world:

How to Enter the Command
The chat window in Minecraft is the best place to run commands. Depending on the version of Minecraft, the following controls are used to open the chat window:
- Press the T key to launch the chat window for Java Edition (PC/Mac).
- Tap the chat button for Pocket Edition (PE) at the top of the screen.
- For Xbox One, press the D-Pad (right)
on the controller. - For PS4, press the D-Pad (right) on the controller.
- Press the right arrow button on the controller for the Nintendo Switch.
- The chat window will open for Windows 10 Edition when you press the T key.
- Press the T key to launch the chat window for the Education Edition.
Type the Command
With the following command, we’ll make the weather clear in this example:
Type the command in the chat window. The command will appear in the lower left corner of the game window as you type it. Press the Enter key to run the command.
The weather in your world will be obvious after entering the cheat:
Changing to clear weather will be indicated by the message that will show up in the lower left corner of the game window. This will reset the world to clear weather.
