Check out mods if you enjoy “Minecraft” but are getting bored with the game.
Mods, or “modifications,” are software programs that can alter how “Minecraft” functions. Some mods alter the rules of the time-space continuum. Some can change enemies into immensely powerful zombies. With the help of a few mods, such as adding flags and unique weapons, you can turn your game into a competitive game of Capture the Flag with your friends.
Additionally, resource packs (also referred to as texture packs) exist that alter the textures, or the visual designs, of each and every item in the game. These are fantastic for changing the game’s appearance while maintaining the same gameplay.
Please be aware that only the Java Edition of “Minecraft,” which is compatible with computers running Mac, Windows, and Linux, supports mods and resource packs.
- From the Minecraft launcher, enter the Installations tab at the top.
- Hover over your Forge installation, then press the Open Folder icon to the right.

What Are Minecraft Mods?
Mods are user-made modifications to an original game. New items, blocks, resource packs, interface changes, and general player quality-of-life enhancements are typically included in Minecraft mods.
The ability to modify virtually everything to create a distinctive Minecraft experience is the main allure of mods. It’s important to note, though, that each mod must be downloaded and installed on both the server and client for it to function.
It’s crucial to remember that mods and plugins work differently. Unlike mods, only the server needs to be installed for plugins in Minecraft.
What Do You Need Before Installing Minecraft Mods?
Make sure you’ve installed the Java Development Kit (JDK) and set up a Minecraft server (Java Edition) before continuing. Before installing Forge and uploading mods, keep the following in mind:
- Java Edition of the game is used by the majority of Minecraft servers. Unfortunately, the Bedrock Edition only supports add-ons from the Mojang Studios Minecraft marketplace and does not support mods.
- Each new mod will use more RAM, so make sure your server has enough power.
- Before adding any mods, make a backup of the server so you have a restore point in case something goes wrong.
- You will need to stop the server when installing mods. If the server is already running, the installation might still be successful, but no changes will be visible until the server is restarted.
Try to install mods one at a time to ensure that they all function properly and to save time if troubleshooting is required.
How to Install Minecraft Mods Manually

If you want to install mods on your Linux-based Minecraft VPS, make sure to follow the instructions provided by your particular hosting company.
Step Install Minecraft Forge
The most popular modding add-on is Minecraft Forge. The Java Edition of Minecraft’s mods can be installed and managed by users thanks to this. To install Minecraft Forge on a Windows Minecraft server, review the steps below. Users of Linux and macOS will experience a similar installation process.
- Download the suggested version of Minecraft Forge from the official website.
- Wait for 5 seconds and click on SKIP:

- Players will be able to connect to the Forge server using the client version. Make sure the default Minecraft launcher is installed and functioning if an error message stating that a missing Minecraft profile has appeared appears.
- Rerun the installer and select Install server. Specify the directory used by your vanilla Minecraft Server. Ignore the warning message and proceed with the installation.
Open the newly created folder and double-click the run file. The Minecraft server with Forge will start. There will be a warning about the EULA; look for the eula. txt file and open it. Change the eula=false line to eula=true. Once that’s done, open the run file again.
