How to Enter the Command
The chat window in Minecraft is the best place to run commands. Depending on the version of Minecraft, the following controls are used to open the chat window:
- Press the T key to launch the chat window for Java Edition (PC/Mac).
- Tap the chat button for Pocket Edition (PE) at the top of the screen.
- For Xbox One, press the D-Pad (right)
on the controller.
- For PS4, press the D-Pad (right)
on the controller.
- Press the right arrow button on the controller for the Nintendo Switch.
- The chat window will open for Windows 10 Edition when you press the T key.
- Press the T key to launch the chat window for the Education Edition.
Type the Command
We will go over examples of how to summon a skeleton with the /summon command as well as a more challenging example of how to summon a tame horse with a saddle.
In this demonstration, we’ll use Minecraft Java Edition (PC/Mac) 1. 19 with the following command:
Type the command in the chat window. The command will appear in the lower left corner of the game window as you type it. Press the Enter key to run the command.
The skeleton will spawn and show up in your world once the cheat is entered:
The game window’s lower left corner will display the message “Summoned new Skeleton” to let you know that the skeleton has been called. The skeleton will spawn directly on your position because we did not provide XYZ coordinates, so you might need to look behind you to see it.
Summon a Tame Horse Wearing a Saddle
In this example, we’ll use Minecraft Java Edition (PC/Mac) 1 to summon a tamed horse that is equipped with a saddle and ready to ride. 19 with the following command:
To execute the command, type it in the chat window and press Enter.
The horse with a saddle will spawn in your world once the cheat has been entered:

TIP: You will frequently see the coordinates “1” in a /summon command, for instance:
