Pumpkins are naturally generated in almost all of Minecraft’s biomes. In addition, loot chests contain pumpkin and its seeds. Players can find pumpkins in the taiga and snowy hill villages in place of hay bales.
In Minecraft, breaking pumpkin blocks with an ax is the quickest method. Pumpkins drop as a block as opposed to individual pieces, unlike melons. One pumpkin block gives four seeds. On an empty side, these seeds grow into stems and produce pumpkin blocks.

In most Overworld biomes, patches of pumpkins spontaneously appear as part of the terrain. They only need grass blocks with air above (clear of any vegetation such as grass or flowers), and they can still generate even if the grass block is covered in a layer of snow. Practically speaking, this means that pumpkins are relatively uncommon in stony or sandy biomes, as well as in grassy biomes with few patches of clear grass. Pumpkin patches can be generated by each chunk with a 1 in 32 chance, making naturally occurring pumpkins more rare than diamond ore.
Pumpkins naturally generate in stem farm rooms in woodland mansions.
4 pumpkins generate naturally in woolen tents in pillager outposts.
Pumpkins grow naturally in taiga and snowy taiga [BE only] villages as piles and in some farms.

Pumpkin farming strategies parallel those of melons. Planted pumpkin seeds grow a central stem that, after maturing, generates pumpkins randomly on adjacent vacant dirt-based blocks (those in the #dirt block tag in Java Edition, dirt/grass block/farmland/coarse dirt in Bedrock Edition). When a pumpkin is taken from the vine without removing the center stalk, another pumpkin grows without the need for replanting or waiting for the stalk to grow back. If a carved pumpkin is desired, simply cut the ground-level pumpkin with shears before harvesting it as usual.
It takes between 10 and 30 minutes for pumpkin stems to fully develop. For them to grow, light levels of 9 or higher are necessary. Bone meal can be applied to pumpkin stems to help them grow fully, but doing so does not immediately result in a pumpkin.
Without providing any real armor protection, a carved pumpkin can be used as a helmet. It restricts the player’s view to a mask pattern that resembles the pumpkin’s carved face when it is worn. When using the third-person view, which is switched on by pressing F5, the pattern is not visible. Additionally, it does not show up when the heads-up display is turned off by pressing F1. [Java Edition only].

Within the block the dispenser is facing, it is possible for dispensers to equip a carved pumpkin on a player, a mob, or an armor stand with an empty helmet slot. If a snow golem or an iron golem can spawn after the pumpkin is placed, it can also place the carved pumpkin as a block.
As demonstrated below, carved pumpkins can be used to create snow golems and iron golems. Iron golems need blocks of iron, whereas snow golems need blocks of snow for their bodies. Place the carved pumpkin last for the golem to spawn. When creating an iron golem or a snow golem, the direction the pumpkin was carved in is irrelevant.
