What do foxes eat in Minecraft? Everything players need to know

Players can interact with a variety of living things called mobs in the game Minecraft. Some can even be bred or tamed, like wolves. Foxes are nocturnal, swift, passive mobs that inhabit the taiga, giant tree taiga, and snowy biomes.

In snowy biomes, players can discover distinct varieties of foxes that are white. Foxes in Minecraft have a 20% chance of spawning with an item such as emerald, egg, and wheat These creatures prioritize food over everything else, so if players drop a tasty berry nearby, the fox may drop the other object from their mouth.

Like the majority of tameable mobs, such as wolves, players can also tame foxes, but doing so is a little bit different. Gamers must breed two adult foxes so that they can give birth to a baby fox by feeding them sweet berries in order to tame a fox.

This young fox will be amiable toward players, have faith in them, and not flee. Here is what Minecraft’s foxes eat and what items players should gather.

Foxes eat sweet berries off bushes. They also pick up and eat any food items they find on the ground, except cake. They prefer sweet berries, and will drop whatever is in their mouth if there are berries within 16 blocks. If a player feeds berries to a fox, it will enter love mode, ready to breed.

What are foxes in Minecraft?

Foxes are vying with wolves, ocelots, and cats for the title of cutest Minecraft animal by joining the elite group of tamable mobs. And they may very well succeed. A passive mob with some distinctive behaviors, foxes are an exhilarating addition to the game’s mind-bogglingly vast collection of wildlife.

Depending on your luck, finding foxes in the game might be a little difficult. They are not as prevalent as mobs like pigs or cows and can only be found in taiga biomes (cold forests with spruce trees). Foxes do, however, typically spawn in groups of three to four, which balances out their rarity.

In the game, there are two different varieties of foxes. The foxes that spawn in taiga biomes devoid of snow and ice will be red and white. But foxes that spawn in taiga biomes where there is a lot of snow will have white and grey fur, similar to arctic foxes. This, of course, makes them the best thing in Minecraft.

Foxes also like to hang out around villages if you want to increase your chances of finding one in-game. When night falls, Minecraft foxes are just as mischievous as their real-life counterparts, resulting in some entertaining fuzzy antics.

Foxes are generally quite small (larger than cats, but smaller than wolves), and they expend a lot of energy when they’re moving around. Large heads and big, fluffy tails complete their look. There are also young foxes, but they are less common in the wild.

How do foxes behave in Minecraft?

Every new mob Mojang adds to Minecraft now seems to have to be more lively and unique than any that have come before it. Mojang is making cows, pigs, and chickens dreadfully boring by adding bees and all the varied behaviors foxes display. Having said that, there is a lot to discuss, so let’s get started.

  • Foxes are nocturnal. The most noticeable fox-behavior will be their sleeping schedule. Foxes actively seek out shady places to curl up until dusk, avoiding being awake during the day. A sleeping fox will look for a different spot to catch some zzzs if you disturb it or if the lighting changes above it.
  • Foxes prefer to be in groups. It’s not impossible to find a fox on your own, but they frequently congregate with other foxes and even occasionally sleep next to one another.
  • Foxes are carnivores. Foxes enjoy devouring chickens, rabbits, the majority of the game fish, and even young turtles if they’re on land. Arctic foxes prefer a quick swim after their meal, while red foxes primarily hunt land animals.
  • Foxes target villages. Whenever night arrives, foxes become far more active. Foxes will deliberately target villages to rob residents of their possessions and devour their chickens.
  • Foxes will carry items around. It’s interesting to note that foxes will pick up and carry different objects in their mouths. They can pick up anything that the player can. When a fox is killed while holding something, it immediately drops that thing for the player to take. Then again, why would you ever kill one?.
  • Foxes can use their carried items. Foxes prefer to carry food (and will eventually eat it), but they can also pick up weapons and use those weapons when attacking, which is even more intriguing.
  • Foxes are incredibly good jumpers. Foxes in Minecraft dont jump, they leap. And they leap far. When a fox is about to jump, it will crouch down, get ready, and then leap into the air. It’s time to rebuild your chicken coops because they can jump four or five blocks high at certain points and easily scale fences and walls. Fun fact: If an arctic fox jumps and lands in a tall snowdrift, they will momentarily become stuck. Theres a little animation and everything.
  • Foxes can move very fast. These tiny animals are difficult to keep up with because their speed is fairly comparable to that of an ocelot.
  • Foxes love sweet berry bushes. The more annoying animals you might unintentionally come across in Minecraft include sweet berry bushes, but foxes are an exception to this rule. Foxes not only enjoy eating them, but they also move through sweet berry pushes without suffering any harm or losing any speed. Talk about a sweet perk.
  • Wolves and polar bears hate foxes. When a wolf or polar bear approaches a fox, they will attack immediately. Although wolves will go for it, polar bears are a little more cunning.
  • Foxes distrust players. Foxes will generally avoid any players. However, there is a workaround because foxes will allow you to approach if you move towards them stealthily.

How to tame and breed foxes in Minecraft

Knowing more about foxes has made it imperative that you learn how to get along with them. As was previously mentioned, foxes are breedable and tameable, so you can keep your own pack of them. That way, they can sleep all day and ignore you. You obviously can’t just tame a couple of foxes and start breeding them because foxes simply had to go and differ from other mobs. It actually happens in the reverse order.

  • Procure some sweet berries and a lead. Bushes that grow in the same biomes as foxes can be harvested for their tasty berries. The lead can be obtained from a villager or trader or created by you.
  • Find a group of foxes. One fox won’t do; fortunately, they typically spawn in groups. If you’re willing to face the terrifying mobs, you can also try looking at night for a better chance of finding them.
  • Approach the group quietly. Any wild fox that you approach must be approached stealthily because if you don’t, it will run away.
  • Feed two of the foxes sweet berries. Take your pick and feed each fox one sweet berry. Like other mobs, it will begin spewing a lot of hearts to signal that it is prepared to bear children.
  • As soon as the foxes have a baby, attach a lead to it. Although adult foxes cannot be tamed in the wild, any offspring you help to produce will be born with trust in you. Attaching a lead is the only way to stop young foxes from following any adult foxes that are nearby because they are still prone to doing so.
  • Once the baby reaches adulthood, itll fully trust you. Repeat this process once more to create your own family of two reliable adult foxes. You can do this with both red and arctic foxes.

The end of a furry tale

If you play on the Java Edition, you’ve probably had these guys for a while now, but for everyone else playing on the Bedrock Edition, there’s yet another new thing to go out and find. Personally, I have every intention of only having foxes living in my home.
