As early as the Minecraft beta version, the idea for adding rabbits was already in place. They were originally intended to be hordes that would splinter into pieces and start bleeding if attacked. Rabbits were eliminated from the list of potential candidates for passive mobs because the idea did not, however, receive the most favorable audience response.
No official method of taming rabbits exists as of the most recent update, and it doesn’t even appear that one is being developed. However, there are still techniques for luring rabbits to follow the main character so that they can be trapped.
It wasn’t until late 2014 that these enemies were revisited and added to Minecraft 1. 8, titled The Bountiful Update.
The Killer Bunny
The Java Edition-only killer bunny is a hostile variety of the rabbit that is hostile to players, foxes, and wolves. Unlike a typical rabbit, which has vertical eyes, it has blood-red eyes that are horizontal on its pure white fur. It can only be spawned using the command /summon rabbit RabbitType:99. It appears with “The Killer Bunny” written on a nameplate above its head.
If the killer bunny finds any player within a 16-block radius, it hops toward the player much faster than a normal rabbit. It moves in a style similar to that of a spider. Once it closes in, it jumps at the player, dealing 8 damage on Normal difficulty. If the player strikes at the killer bunny, it runs away for a brief moment, then returns to lunging at the player. Killer bunnies are immune to the Thorns enchantment.
The killer bunny actively seeks out and attacks any foxes or wolves, including domesticated wolves, if it cannot find a player. In response, these mobs attack the killer bunny, setting off a bloody melee.
Despite its hostile nature, the killer bunny does not despawn when playing on peaceful difficulty. It continues to attack wild wolves and domesticated wolves, but not the player.
Despite its hostile nature, the killer bunny can be bred, leashed, and followed by players holding carrots.
Toast”Toast” redirects here. For messages displayed on-screen, see
When a rabbit is given the name Toast (either through a name tag or a renamed spawn egg), its texture is changed to resemble a black dutch, with a large black and white patch and more black fur around the face than the rabbit’s natural black and white spots. Toast acts exactly as it would if it were an unnamed character, aside from its name and skin. When Toast rabbits are bred, whether with regular rabbits or with one another, the offspring do not have the Toast pattern; instead, they have a pattern consistent with the parents’ original coloring before being given the new name. A killer bunny that has been given the name Toast will still attack people and wolves. Like the killer bunny, Toast does not spawn naturally.
Ryan Holtz created this rabbit as a memorial using the skin of user xyzen420’s girlfriend’s missing rabbit. [3].
Java Edition: For entity-dependent sound events, common rabbits use the Friendly Creatures sound category. The killer bunny uses the Hostile Creatures sound category for all of its sounds and entity-dependent sound events, unlike regular rabbits.
