Considerations for Shared Devices

If the Chromebook is shared by multiple students, there are a few things to be aware of, including world storage, hard drive usage, and installation.

Minecraft Education, worlds are stored locally on the device. Before turning off the Chromebook, we strongly advise exporting worlds and saving them to cloud storage or removable storage if students frequently switch devices or if accounts are deleted when the student signs out.

Applications are kept separately for each user. That means there are separate installations of Minecraft Education for each account on the device. You should budget 350–500 MB (250–500 MB for the application and 100–250 MB for worlds) for each user sharing the device when installing.

To speed up installation, the controlled Google Play Store maintains an application download cache that is shared by all users on a device. This means that users within the same domain should only be allowed to download the application once per device using the same bandwidth.
