These tasks are meant to take care of some start menu cache maintenance.

For years, I have consistently deleted these scheduled tasks from servers without experiencing any problems. There is no real benefit to optimizing the cache since these are production servers rather than workstations and the desktop environment is rarely changed.

In most cases, a server wont have a lot of these, so theres little performance impact. Removing them is more a matter of keeping the task list clean and organized, and eliminating possible sources of errors, such as triggering account lockouts.

In the case of RDS servers, though, its possible for hundreds or even thousands of these tasks to be created, which can make task management very difficult, and cause slow startup.

Simply disable the task for a while to see if it will have any effects before deciding whether to delete it once you are confident there are no issues.

Keep in mind that these tasks can be automatically recreated, so if you have a lot of them, you might want to check in on them occasionally.

The remote desktop licensing manager console is where the issue is. We have 1050 Device CALs installed, but only 450 of them are used, and only by personal laptops, iPads, and some older Fat-Clients. The Thin-Clients on the one hand don’t appear to draw a license, but they connect without any issues on the other.

Want to set up a small single server with the following features: * 3 local users running Windows 7 Home Premium must be able to access server files * These same 3 users must be able to connect from home (PC, Mac, or iPhone) and use a server application (Session-Based Remote Desktop).

I’ve already done a ton of research and verified that “Bypass gateway server for local addresses” is turned off. In order to validate the certificate, we also have a valid certificate on both servers, and both servers have access to the Internet (I’ve read that this could result in a delay).

I know the issue shouldn’t be Group Policy or UAC because once the connection is passed on to the Session Host, it opens quickly. How can I troubleshoot the connection process to identify the root cause? On the Gateway server, there is a delay, but I have no idea what is causing it.

(I’ve been trying to get locat MS representatives to figure out a way to meet our needs, but nobody seems to understand how this works. Of course, we could just purchase two instances of the WS 2012 Standard server, run one as the DC and one as the RDCB, and upgrade all of our clients to Windows 7 Pro, but we’d prefer a solution that requires the least amount of time and money.
