How to make a Nether Portal in Minecraft
The Nether is a bit like Minecrafts version of hell. Its filled with lava, fire, and undead warriors. But it’s also the only location where essential supplies like blaze rods and glowstones can be found.
Obsidian and a means of igniting the obsidian are required to create a Nether Portal.
There are a few ways to get obsidian. Every time lava and water mix, obsidian blocks spawn, and you can mine them using a diamond pickaxe. They can also naturally spawn in some ocean ruins or mansions in the woods.
Use a flint and steel tool when dealing with the fire. A flint and steel can be created by combining one iron ingot with one unit of flint (which can be found by mining gravel). To ignite any block, use the flint and steel.
Even though you only need 10 obsidian blocks, having 14 makes it easier to construct the portal frame. You only need one flint and steel.
Use your obsidian to construct your portal frame once you have it. There are two ways to construct the portal frame, depending on whether you have 14 or 10 obsidian blocks.
The frame should be four blocks long and five blocks tall if you have 14 obsidian blocks. On the ground, arrange four blocks in a row. Then, stack four blocks on either side of the row. In order to connect the pillars at the top, use your final two blocks.
By rounding the corners, you can create the same portal using only 10 obsidian blocks. Build your portal as described above, but swap out any type of block for the corners. Once youre done, feel free to destroy those corner blocks.
Youve now got your portal frame. Use your flint and steel on any of the blocks to activate the frame and make it a true portal.
A purple haze will fill the frame. You will be transported to the Nether if you jump into the haze and remain there for a short period of time.
Quick tip: The Overworld is also home to a number of partially constructed Nether Portals. They need to be activated and replaced, but once you do, they function just as well and can save you time.
How to make an End Portal in Minecraft
There is no way to create an End Portal from scratch unless you’re playing in Creative Mode, which gives you access to all of the game’s blocks. Instead, you must locate one inside a stronghold that has already been partially constructed and complete it with Eyes of Ender.
A quick tip: Every stronghold in Minecraft: Java Edition has a partially completed End Portal. In Bedrock Edition, you wont find them in every stronghold.
By launching Eyes of Ender into the air and moving in their direction, you can locate strongholds. Once you’ve located the portal, open it by inserting an Eye of Ender into each of the twelve frames.

How to make other portals in Minecraft
There are a few other kinds of portals in Minecraft. The Exit Portal and End Gateway are two of them that can’t actually be made. Only the Ender Dragon can spawn them, or you can use console commands.
The last type of portal is the Funky Portal. In 2020, it was added that you could create a Funky Portal by dropping a book into a Nether Portal for April Fools’ Day. As soon as you entered, the Funky Portal teleported you into one of 2 1 billion randomized dimensions.
In the current version of Minecraft, Funky Portals are not possible to create. Open the Launcher, select Installations at the top, click New installation, and then select Snapshot 20w14infinite from the Version drop-down menu if you want to see them.
